remove shifter cables

Trying to pull my engine... The shifter cables are confusing me.

Do you take the bracket off or take the cables out of the bracket? I can't seem to reach the bolts that hold the bracket on and the clips aren't budging. Is there a trick to this?

The repair manual is not very helpful here.

There are two U clips (one for each cable) that you need to pull up from the bracket/cables They can be very difficult to remove as there is little room to move. Then the cables can be pulled away from the bracket.

Awesome. Thank you. I didn't want to pull that hard on the clips without knowing that's what I was supposed to do. They've been soaking in oil overnight so hopefully that'll help me out too.

Go up through the tie rod hole on the left side with a large screw driver or pry bar and tap them upward with a hammer. They are in there pretty good ...
