How hard is it to remove the center diff on a St165 to get it welded ? Does the whole tranny need to be dropped ?

You'll be dropping the motor & transmission, splitting them taking the transfer case apart and then you can get at it.

What makes you think it needs servicing?

was hoping to get it welded/locked up for ice racing. looks like that is a dead end as I really don't wanna pull the motor out.

The viscous center is pretty immediate in terms of engagement. If you read up more on how the 4WD system is setup you'll see that the car is a true 50:50 split, not FWD till slip.

Get all four wheels in the air on some stands and then drop it into first and you'll see.

That's grewt to hear. The car currently has a welded rear diff that causes massive understeer. I'm hoping to find a Torsen or clutch type rear diff to replace it.
