I didn't because my upper timing cover was already cracked and I planned to replace it anyways however with that said it wasn't like I had 100% of the weight centered on that area. . . regardless I'd cushion the area with scrap carpet/towels (I can't remember what I used).

I don't remember, I just picked two spots that evenly distributed the weight. I may have added a ratchet strap to a third spot to prevent the trans from rotating once released from the engine.

So will the valvoline mp grease I have be fine or should I look for some white lithium or synthetic?
