good mechanic for engine swap

can someone recamend me a good mechanic who is able to perform an engine swap. someone with alot of experience in or around new york. I plan to swap a 3rd gen 3sgte into my celica.

The best mechanic would be YOU. With a little research, time, and doing your hw, you can perform the swap yourself. You might be clueless at first, but in the end you will know just about everything about your car. Thats my .02

The best mechanic is you but not if you're still green. Otherwise you'll have a halfworking Alltrac that you bought from previous green mechanic for a great price but wow what a load of work you will have to put in...

Don't ask me how I know...

The best mechanic is you but not if you're still green. Otherwise you'll have a halfworking Alltrac that you bought from previous green mechanic for a great price but wow what a load of work you will have to put in...

I'm thinking about swaping with a JDM engine because mine is missing pieces that are needed to put back together and wasn't running perfect when it was torn apart by the previous owner, and was wondering what, if any modifications need to be done to the engine or the engine bay because of the right hand drive, or is it just a straight one for one swap with no mods?

The difference between USDM and JDM motors (of the same generation) are very minor - basically just the lack of EGR and different routing of the wiring harness.

Unless your missing a big piece - like the head - it would likely be cheaper to refresh / rebuild the existing motor then replace it. Then you get a clean motor that you know is in good shape, rather then buying another unknown motor with no guarantee of its condition.

The RHD configuration only effects the engine harness and power steering rack/lines. Just use the harness from existing motor and you'll be all set.

One note to add - this is only if your car already has / had a 3SGTE in it. If you had a 5SFE and want to swap over to a 3SGTE, thats an entirely different story.


-- never mind, I see from the other thread that you have an alltrac. Then yeah, they are the same motor. ---
