Well i know this me feel like a loop hole but i have to ask the question again. I asked the company that i bought the clip from if the st185 tranny would work in FWD application and this was their reply

"Dear Sir - the ST185 Tranny is a close ratio tranny (many MR2 car
will buy the clip just for the transmission)
The shaft inside the transmission is awesome.. You can make it run FWD
problem, transfer case (lock it up)."

So again i ask, is it possible to use the st185 tranny for FWD setup, is there anyway around getting another tranny??[/i]

No, you can't.
They kinda know what they're talking about...
Case of "a little knowlege is a dangerous thing...."

The tranny does have a selector switch, but it's only for a dyno....
I believe it is only supposed to be used in 3rd gear and above.

My stock engine is the 4afe 1.6L with automatic tranny, so no its not going to work. Yes i do plan on at least 450-500 whp in this car, (far into future) so i want to start off with a good tranny. I think im going to try and find the rare mr2 tranny w/ LSD. LOL i can see you guys want my spare parts, but you'll have to give me time to check things out. If you have an urgent need for the parts E-mail me and I will check them out and give you a price

}:) I dont have what i need to get it done. B) B)

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but there is some good news for those who want to use their existing transmission for FWD use.

It is possible to replace the differential with one (prefferably aftermarket LSD) from an MR2. Once you swap diffs. you replace the rear propellar(sp?) with a cover from an MR2. You will still need the hybrid axle setup you would need if you were swapping to an MR2 E-153.
