Yeah I wasn't sure whether the st162 had a 3sge or some 4A whatever motor like the pre 90 mr2. Apparently there is one company that does a drop in set of cams for gen 1. 264's only if I remember correctly. You may have to do some research.

ats does the only 164s and iv heard that they arent that great of quality.

Here are the gen 1 figures. So there is the same amount of gain in duration for gen 1 (162 into 165) as there is for those doing the gen 2 (182 into 185) swap. The difference is there is less gain in lift as compared to gen 2 when the swap is carried out.

do you have any overlap... are your exhaust and intake valves open simultaneously?

Bringing this back from the dead...
To make a long story short my cams where removed without being marked and I was wondering what the retard/advance was on 3sge cams on the gen1 head (st165).

IMHO I'm running a gen1 gte with gen1 ge cams both intake and exhaust. It is a really nice complement to my ge side feed intake. I can tell you that my intake cam is .006 inch bigger then the gte and the exhoust is .010 bigger. Another member mentioned to set my intake advance 1 tooth and exhaust retarded 1 tooth for more air in and exhaust out. I will see when I get adjustable cam gears if it makes a difference
