st185 maf on st165??
Does any know if you can use a st185 maf on a st165. I have searched all over and there is a lot of back and forth. If you can swap them do they both have the same sensor plug or would you have to splice wires?? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: st185 maf on st165??
Short answer: No
My memory is a bit foggy on the subject...on a 165 the fuel pump is controlled by the afm in some way, on a 185 it is not. They both use a 6 wire plug, but the 165 has 6 wires where the 185 only has 4. I want to say fuel pump relay for some reason but that's obviously not part of the afm, I don't remember and it'll take too much effort to find the pinout (my dog ate my BGB, seriously....it wasn't his fault though, there was a jack in the box taco sitting on top of the disk
)
Basically, the 165 afm has an extra circuit, so 165 works on 185 but 185 afm does not work on 165.

i see, fc is related to the COR. there's a FC pin on the 185 ecu but not on the 165 ecu. I guess the COR gets a ground from the afm in 165, but 185 gets it directly from the ecu.

Yea the extra circuit is used to activate the fuel pump relay. I bet you can get the 185 afm to work if you just jumped those two wires together. Although im not sure that the values that the 185 afm output are exactly the same as the 165 afm.

^ you sir are correct. that is how my setup is. I presently run direct 12v to my walboro. And thus i can use 185 AFM's
if using stock fuel pump do not run direct 12v to the fuel pump.

the afm out of a 85 Mr2 is the same as a st165 they control the fuel pump aswell

I know this topic is a little old but I just wanna throw out there that you can use an 88 t2 rx7 maf. Thats what Im running without any modification and it works great.

Re: st185 maf on st165??
old thread revival!!! I have just purchased an old st165 rally car, which campaigned in Group N in the UK in the early 1990s.

It currently has an st165 ECU/AFM and loom with an st185 engine. I have an ST185 RC ECU/AFM which I want to use in the car with the st165 loom - is this possible??? Anybondy know what do I do about the lack of FC on the 165 loom and different AFM connections??
Thanks, Andrew

Re: st185 maf on st165??
Hi, sorry for the Hijack but im quiet desperate for advice but you guys seem to know your AFM's
my 1990 185 starts fine but then stops when the key is returned to ON position(running position). the fuel pump basically shuts off. My AFM only has the 4 pins (as it should) and therefore hasn't the switch inside like the 165 and instead uses the ecu somehow to allow the fuel pump to run. but the circuit for an ecu controlled pump has a NE wire out of the ecu which goes to the distributor, but mine doesn't, I seem to have both types in one package. the car used to run normally so I know it can work. any help???
if I earth the COR the fuel pump runs but for some reason it doesn't normally... could I just jump the COR to an earth???
I am really confused
any advice???
