Audio System Help!

Okay, so I'm sure these topics have been made before and i have been searching through them to no end and i need an exact answer.

in my 90 GT-S i had the system 10 stock radio, speakers etc . But my radio signal was crappy the speakers were coming through a bit fuzzy and static like because of the old head unit. So as a commuter everyday i like the radio, i decided to get a new head unit. I figure i buy one and all the speakers will work.

well i changed the head unit and the dash and rear speakers work and sound great, but my door subs do not work. Mind you i have the factory amp installed. I purchased new speakers and put them into the door but nothing worked.

the solutions I'm seeing are to "bypass" the factory amp, manually wire the speakers to existing wiring that's in the new head unit, but what does this entail. Also, if i put a new amp in how does this get to the actual head unit. i have a clarion CZ100 and it has a built in amplifier which powers the 4 speakers already, but how will the 2 speakers be powered and connected to the head unit, in which the head unit already has an amplifier?

summary : i have an aftermarket head unit that powers my 2 rear and 2 dash speakers and i bought new speakers for the door woofers. how can i get them to work without doing too much work?

thank you very much for your help, my grandfather and i are trying to find a way to do this that won't be super elaborate.

so by purchasing this harness, it plugs into my aftermarket HU and into the factory amp connector that was connected to the original factory HU, which will then lead power into the woofer speakers?

a how to would be SUPER helpful if anyone can give me one, electric is really confusing.

also if it helps, i ordered my radio from crutchfield and it came with installation instructions as to harnesses and what wires to clamp.

i'm just looking to get the door woofers working, the new speakers i got have built in tweeters, so the door ones closest to the mirror aren't a necessity.

thanks to anyone who can help me :(

hm yes, i just had an epiphany and realize that my radio had inputs in the back, rather wires coming out, so I'm assuming these are the wires this harness will connect into.

However, i need to find out which place the adapter plugs into for the factory amplifier.

does anyone know where the above harness connects into?

correct me if I'm wrong but here is what I'm getting from other posts

-the wires that i connected to my aftermarket head-unit with the included harness play my 2 sets of speakers (2 dash and 2 rear) but it also sounds like the wires that are connected to the door subs are in there, but when i put the new radio in, i lost power to the amplifier.

-the amplifier only has use to power the door subs

so if i purchase a new amplifier, my door subs will work, without any necessary re-wiring?

unless my previous post method is correct?

a visual walkthrough from anyone who has done this would be SO great, this is becoming a headache

i have a 1990 GT-S though w/ the system 10 system, so from what i have read that harness won't work?

The harness I mentioned as well as the autoleads one runs the subs in the doors with the rca connections. Its just not listed as a part for our cars, well the metra one isnt, but it works.

Yes, the two sets of rca outs will use the stock wiring ans amp to run the subs in the doors.

Right behind the radio, using the original toyota stereo plug, if you havent cut it away that is.

Buying a new aftermarket amp would be more hassle, not less. You would have to run your own wiring to the amp and subs, the power and rca's. Instead you plug in the harness that would use the stock amp and wires.

okay so the plugs from the Autoleads harness (the RCA ones will go into the rca plug-ins located on the back of my radio here

http://www.gotbump.com/files/3656354/up ... 0_back.jpg

then, i take what is plugged into the back of my radio and plug it into the white connector, and plug the black connector into the other connector?

(sorry if its vague)

and my woofers, dash and rear will all work??

thank you so much for the help !!!!

The one that I bought doesnt have that black connector on it;

To be honest I havent installed these parts yet myself, Ive got the harness and a dvd stereo waiting for me to install.

I know the rca's will send sound to the subs in the doors, there is probably a wire to signal the amp to turn on, and I dont know what the others are for yet. So I dont know what else will or wont work, but some lexuses (lexusi?) have the same sort of system.

You should read the other stereo thread and the original on celica tech, for some with the GTS this harness didnt work, seems to depend on the year and / or the type of factory stereo that the car came with.

This is probably confusing as shit, Im sorry, I just dont want you to waste your money

this is the harness that came with my aftermarket head-unit

my grandfather and i cut and crimped the wires according to the color and got the dash and rear speakers to work.

i don't mind putting money into getting the harness, i just would like to know where it connects.

i am going to take apart the radio and i figure go from there.

i wish i could get this done by a pro, but they would charge an arm and a leg.

thanks so much for your help, if you know anymore, feel free to elaborate.

One end of the autoleads harness connects into the factory harness that would have plugged into the back of the system 10 unit. The other end has RCA jacks that will plug into the out (RCA) of your aftermarket head unit. 2 locals have used this and it was PLUG and PLAY :) In my 14 yrs of owning alltracs this is the ONLY harness I have seen that is plug and play on a 1990 - 91 celica 2 piece system 10 setup !!!

alright i purchased the Autoleads one and i'll see how it goes, if it's a no go then i'll count my losses and move forward.

alright well i figured out how i connected the radio. The radio came with a harness that snapped in to the back of my aftermarket HU but had wires that i crimped to other wires and at the end was the female harness that the male factory harness connects into.

so when i get the autoleads harness, all i have to do is take the black connector, plug that into my aftermarket HU, the female end, into the male factory harness and the RCA outs. does this sound correct? because i have a few doubts.

1) will the black end plug into my aftermarket HU?
2) OR do i place this harness in between the connected harnesses somehow?

if anybody can clarify this, that would be great, if not its alright and when i get the harness i'll just have to try out what i can.

edit: http://www.stephenmason.com/cars/mr2pc9406.html this site clarified some things. pretty much it looks like i have to disconnect the harness that is plugged into my aftermarket HU and whats plugged into the factory harness, and use the Autoleads adapter instead. he states the black plug should fit into the back of my after market HU, but if it doesn't then oh well i suppose, theres not much else i can do, other than bypassing the amp, which my step brother may do for me.

I am in the same boat. I will be installing a new head unit soon and wanted to see what the easiest way to do this is. If i purchase the PC9-406 autoleads it looks like that is all i will need to install a new headunit right? Will that harness make it a simple plug and play?

i may just have my step-brother wire re wire the speakers from the amp to the back of my head-unit because i am not even sure i wanna take apart everything to find out this harness does not work.

because my headunit had some wires that we had to tape off that were unused and they were for "rear speakers" so we may just take the wires from the speaker that run to the amp, run them under my rug, into the headunit and crimp em and see what happens.

i'm more confident in him doing it for me than this harness doing any good, we'll have to see.
