side moulding

to the people that painted the car.

did you keep the side moulding? are there holes in the back side?

for the lower half of the car.

i have a dent on the textured paint. how did you replicate the textured look or did you completely sand the car smooth?

1) Yes there are holes when you take the side mouldings off, so you will either need to replace them, put them back on if they need fixing, or shave them off.

I personally like the shaved look a whole lot better, and did so with my GTS when I had it repainted.

And what textured part at you talking about? How big of a dent?

if you look at the lower portion of the car its not as smooth as the rest of the car. it has some texture to it.

did you weld in the holes? how many are there?

Ah yes I know what you mean. Its pretty hefty. Bodyshops usually try to use rockgaurd to try and get a similar texture, but Im not sure how you would do it on the 5th gens. I never had to do any body work on the GTS in that spot, just simple sand and spray.

With the side mouldings there are no holes on the front fender, or on the rear quarter panel, its just on the door if I do remember correctly.
And there I believe about 3-4 holes.

The holes are verrry small. About the size of a penny. I just fiberglassed over the holes then put some "bondo" over top of it. Then just sanded with a block to create the same bodyline.

You will notice quite a bodyline when you take the moulding off.

Goodluck with whatever you choose! Shaved is the way to go tho!

Now if we can only convince the ladies the same... dirty i know.

As for the rough texture part, i'm curious if having mudguards would help protect that portion so we can have it painted smooth? I personally don't like how it looks textured.

the rear quarter also has holes, two of them. My doors only have two holes each. About the width of a pencil.

that black one is clean.

the OEM moulding does go well with the lines of the car. but if youlook at that black car. there is a hidden body contour that the moulding is hiding.

so is looks vs functionality

hey maxaud why would you put it back on?

part of me wants to keep the car as much stock as possible.
I also have the side "GT-four RC" decals that need to go back on also, not sure how they'll look without the trim in place.

Hey Dustin I never realized you took up off the side moulding! On a black car, it does look great! The red one above, ehhh I'm not sure why im not feeling it.

And Don, have you found a rust-free hatch yet? lol. I guess so since youre painting it. How about the interior, I think you said you were going to try and make it all black?

i found a hatch, but its still residing in the junk yard. my car is not going to be brought to the body shop till mid next week. that's when we are picking up my room mates car.

i would like a black interior but yet to see a good one.
