Hi guys,

I'd like to hear all opinions from those of you with experience as to which of the aftermarket headlamp housing and bulb combinations are the best for a right hand drive ST185 being driven on the side of the road it was meant to be on :) ...

Raybrig, Cibie or Kioto (sp?) housings ???

PIAA,etc ,etc bulbs ????

Cheers,
Martin.

Ive got Koito glass reflectors, Narva 55/60 +50 super white globes.
Ive also got a Bosch headlight booster kit (basically two relays and big wiring) that makes a huge difference!

I think its a decent setup... much, much better than it used to be with plain H4 globes and no booster kit.
I do a decent amount of hills/country driving too and they are great.

I've used Hella E-codes Cibie E-codes and my MR2 came with RHD Kyoto H4 lamps. The Hella would be my first choice but they are quite a bit more money and for the price i would probably go with the Cibie.

The kyoto I didnt have to long as a rock went through one of mine shortly after i got the car and bought some cibies off ebay.

I'm also just using some 90/100 watt H4 that I got off ebay and the light output of them compared to the stock 35/55 is night and day. I've even have some people say they are HID bulbs...(was using silverstar 45/65 watt bulbs but had a nightmare trying to get them to last more than a few months and like these ebay bulbs much better)

Also dont worry about the wires for the headlights I've been running these bulbs for 2 years now and have not had any issues.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are E-codes ???

I am assuming these are european market headlamps best suited to use on driving on the right hand side of the road as in Europe, USA and Canada, etc.

My car, while being right hand drive is driven on the left side of the road as in Japan, UK and Barbados. As a result, I need housings that throw a beam suitable for these markets.

Thanks for all responses so far, looking forward to all others :)

Anyone ???

Need to sort out some proper lights for my RHD ST185 that gets driven on the left side of the road.

It's now "faster than the stock lights" LOL :)

E-code= euro spec for european countries
DOT: america standard

Its about how the housings project the light on to the road

To point out what's different, the E Codes are not DOT compliant but use a European light pattern -- a more even illumination with a sharp cutoff and a rising beam pattern to the right to illuminate street signs. DOT compliant focus light to the centre and provide illumination above the cutoff to light up overhead road signs. Many newer cars are moving towards a sharper cutoff and European style pattern or a level pattern while still remaining DOT compliant by allowing small amounts of light to stray upward to illuminate road signs.

Thank you very much. The E-codes throwing light to the right (into oncoming traffic and away from the verge) would be a bad thing here as we drive on the left side of the road.

Does anyone know if the Cibies or Hellas are made in a RHD suitable light pattern and where to get them ?

Raybrigs are JDM and would I assume throw the correct light pattern for a RHD application, correct ???
