My Celica's Front Bumper Paint Scheme - Want Opinions

Postby 2_Liter_Turbo » Tue Nov 16, 2010 5:34 pm

I was playing with photoshop, and thought that changing the front bumper's paint scheme would be clean looking. First I just did the center "bar" of the bumper, because it would take the focus away from the license plate bracket area. Then I did the lower lip portion to match, then I did the sides of the center section. So I was hoping to get opinions to see what others thought would look the best, or if I should just leave it as it sits, lol.

If you touch the visual perfection that is that car in the first photo I will personally come over to your house and beat you with a rolled-up BGB.

Ha ha. I haven't fully decided on what to do. I may just keep it the way it is, but I may not, lol. Thanks for the compliment though!

Also, you don't want to break the first rule of modding: don't mod because you are bored. 8)

If you want to change the look up, play around with the wheels. I like the black on maroon, but the fitment is kind of meh. Look for something wider with more lip and and lower it some more and it would be one of the nicest looking ST185s in the US. And I don't even like maroon. But that car's beautiful.

LMFAO.

I'd start with shaving the license plate bracket off and having it smooth as butter. Then repaint it.

Live with it like that for a while, and if you still want to mod it - have it wrapped in matte vinyl to the tune of #3.

Here's a tip:

I once ran tempra paint through my air brush to black out the center of some wheels to see how I liked it. It's water base so it washes off easily.

If you try it and are not sure if you like it, you can keep it from coming off too easily by lightly coating it with WD-40. That will give you a little more time to decide.

Personally I like the first pic best.

Well, I am actually going to use the plate area, I just have to make an adapter bracket, lol. Otherwise I totally would smooth it out!

Towels had a good idea. Go and get it wrapped in black vinyl if you want to test out a new look. It'll be easy to take off and won't ruin your paint when you inevitably decide to take it off. :P

Front mount would be a nice addition.

That is a good idea actually, and I just might do that. Never had messed with vinyl though, where would I get such a product? Is it expensive?

I forget what it cost to get my A Pillars done... but I don't believe it is very costly to purchase or even have someone else do the install which is probably far easier and less of a headache.

I'd go with a nice matte black.

You could go with a subtle CF vinyl...but you'll have some issues getting the plate area wrapped neatly (unless you won't mess with perfection there too much since you'll have a plate to cover it up).

I threw this idea around in another thread I made a while back. The first option would be the cleanest, and I only say that b/c if you start messing with the lower "bar" of the bumper, you'll find there really is no distinct/clear 'cutoff' on the sides from the rest of the bumper. Unless your paint guy is awesome, it'll look awkward unless the lines are absolutely straight and true.

I agree though, I wouldn't touch the bumper until you've messed with the other stuff first (suspension and wheels).
