paint or not to paint, that is the question(for value)

i have currently two tracs a black one and one red. when I picked up the red one in feb. 2007 it needed painted, it was gone. you can see were the car had been re sprayed from touch up. it looks great but is not factory red. didn't care if it was a little different cause i felt i would never sell this car so i felt i should make it pop a little more.

just picked up a black one here in feb. of THIS year. just the clear is peeling on the lift gate, and on the left front fender only has a little of bubbleing.

reason for my questions are i feel paint is paint, it just dress up the car. BUT i work with several car colletors and they get gitty about the cars that have rust coming through the paint a little. ive been told adds 3-4k on the type of car(in this one case a 1938 chevy). This is something id like to know how the rest of the community feels. my black trac looks good even like that. im selling her soon and wanted to know. waste my time(or yours) painting the car, or the value of original paint out goes the look?

Though they are rare and have a following, All-Trac's don't really fit into a true collector category because there aren't enough around and there aren't enough people out there who are interested (actual buyers) in them. Any real money you put into an All-Trac, you're not going to get it back and I know what you're saying about original vs. restored condition, but that definitely wouldn't apply to our cars. If you're going to sell it, let the next person decide whether or not they want to paint it and really a lot of people (myself included) tell themselves, "Oh sure, I'll paint it" talking themselves into buying it, even though they never will come to shelling out the money to actually paint it when the time comes. If you paint it and add $3000 onto the price, you're going to have a lot harder time selling it, you're more than likely not going to get that money back in the actual sale price unless you're lucky to meet a sucker (who has the money, a tough combination to come across) who's just ga ga for the car. I had my tranny rebuilt last year and I knew I'd never see that money come back to me, I did it because I knew I wanted to keep the car a long time and enjoy it.

Your not going to get your money back so I wouldnt bother repainting. Maybe a nice cut and buff job.. Really brings the gloss out and only costs about 100 bucks or so.
