Hey all I'm after a final, clear answer on this topic.
How many different variants are there of the ST185?
I ask because I'm looking at getting a bodykit down the track and I'm not even sure which mine is and what the difference is?
My celica is a Jap import, ST185R (R means RHD I believe).
Now I know its not a widebody, but is it a 2dr/3dr liftback/hatchback/coupe? Which variant were delivered wheren and do you get these variants in the grpA rally spec/CZ editions or just GT-4/all-trac?

Heres pics:

I'm looking at getting the Erebuni bodykit:

i own an ST185R......the R stands for Rally in australian delivered models, meaning a Carlos Sainz or Grp A Variant, however they all came in widebody so i couldnt understand why yours wouldnt be

what u purchased is a JDM ST185......its a narrow body 2 dr liftback

the only variants in GT4's are narrow body, wide body, and Grp A

appart from that u have options like the 10 speaker sound system, electric seats, sunroof etc

beyond that u have USDM, JDM, AUDM, UKDM and european

the JDM made more power, due to more advanced timing and different tuning coz they have 100 RON petrol at the pump over there, the USDM were all widebody as were the UKDM, AUDM and european versions

Thanks for the reply beej. When I said variants I meant to say celicas and not GT-4's, because the bodykits may only be used for one or the other a lot of the time.
I know theres a '3 door' hatchback, the rear slopes down much quicker with a more flatter rear.. was wondering if theres any others.

My mate has a GT-4 rally spec one (not the grp A or CS edition) which you left out - it has the 5 speed gearbox but with really tight ratios on gears 1-4 and he said it was designated the ST185R.

There is a very very rare Rally version GT4 with the ATA interwarmer... it has the gearbox E152 gearbox... Very nice gearbox - extra synchros and very very close 1-4 with 5th overdrive.

Beej, the R in ST-185R Stands for Right hand drive, not rally.

All Aus-spec ST185's are labeled ST185R

The ST-185 Carlos Sainz and ST-185 Rally are both designated ST-185R as they were only ever sold to right hand drive markets (I think).

The Rally spec was, i think, sold to people like neil bates in australia who actually used them for rally. Ie rally cars to be raped to shit. They have a ridiculously short ratio box, thinarse rally tyres stock, and they were a bit lighter too. The only one i have seen in australia was in the ACT, and it had no bonnet and i cant recall what front bar it had so i cant tell you if it was a carloz sainz spec engine layout but i have a feeling i was told it had a standard power output..?

The carloz sainz was basically the rally-spec car for the joe average, with normal tyres and a less savage gearbox. (Does anyone know how long they made the rally version for??

erolit is right about st185r meaning right hand drive.
As far as body kits for 5th gen, there is only 2 real styles narrow and wide body. Celica ST, GT, JDM st185 (and the convertable?) is narrow body, celica gts & most st185 is widebody. The one you linked on ebay looks like its for a narrowbody.

There are 3 bodies for 5th generation celicas.

You've got your coupe, which looks like ass, and has two doors and a trunk.

Then there are wide and narrowbodied hatchbacks/fastbacks, where the rear glass extends all the way back to the back of the body (well almost all the way).

The 185 only came in wide and narrowbodied hatchbacks/fastbacks. In the US, we only got widebodied cars, but elsewhere you could option for either body.

CS/RS edition cars did come in LHD in a few countries in mainland Europe.

Body kits for the coupe could have differences on the rear quarter sections. The coupe has a different rear bumper. As for the looks of a coupe, I like my 93 GT just fine and I'm sure if the Alltrac came as a coupe there would be an equal number that prefered the coupe version. I believe the convertibles share the same rear demensions as a coupe.

Thanks for the clarification.
This is what I thought and now confirmed.

Also Erolit, my good mate here in Brisbane has the rally edition.
Had it imported from Japan for dirt cheap, it has that gearbox and its stipped bare.
As for the body, looks the same as the narrowbody with bonnet scoop.
You can see it on the left here with mine on the right:

He's currently swapping the gearbox and diffs because the close ratios such the big one for track and street use.

Cool, yeah i was pretty sure it was a boonet scoop setup because i thought i recalled it having an A2A IC. Nice clarification though.

About being stripped bare, how savage was it? I remember it lacking things like sound systems/aircon and the model i saw had no rear seats, but interior-wise it seemed pretty standard.

Just so you know. That Erebuni kit is only a front lip meant to work with a GT front bumper. I'm pretty sure it won't fit the alltrac.

Yeah had no aircon and was missing a lot of panelling and no carpet or anything on the floors. It does have rear seats, though my mate has had his engineered as a 2 seater now.

Yeah thanks AWDios thats what I was thinking.
I have been looking at going with a different bodykit instead but the only guy who would ship to Australia wants $850 for air shipping!
Its becoming too costly and so I may end up passing on a kit at this rate:(
Unless theres a japan supplier who can ship here cheap.
