What year is the car? Brand spanking new cars are exempt for the first couple years.
Smog is pretty easy. If you have OBD, they simply test through the diagnostic port. They will do a visual though, usually both under the car and under the hood for emissions gear.
If you have something like my alltrac, they'll stick a sniffer in the pipe and idle it at two speeds. Ditto on the visual. They are looking for EGR and the cat. Sometimes they even check the gasket on my fuel cap. Heh. They don't seem to care much about mods. If in doubt, go to a mom and pop kind of place where they are less likely to know what you might have done to the car. This isn't Cali, so modifications are legal for the most part.
As long as you have a cat installed for testing, you should be fine. The worst thing about smog here is you have to do it annually.
