Figure I'd consolidate a bit. :p

Latest random request:

Background here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=41174

Couldn't get much help on here or on celicatech, but managed to get some advice on mr2oc: http://www.mr2oc.com/showthread.php?t=424202

Basically, I'm getting clunking with the gr2/megan struts and springs I installed a few weeks ago.

Based on the mr2oc suggestions, I had kind of decided the springs were just too short. But the more I think about it and examine how and when I hear the clunking, I become less convinced that the problem is the springs. Although I didn't have to compress the springs much at all when I installed them, I also wouldn't say that they were "loose." I was worried about them being too short so I was specifically watching for this problem, but they seemed to fit snug. Once the weight of a heavy ass alltrac is over them, I just can't see how they could really have any play in them.

The other thing I noticed is that I get the clunking when I'm going over fairly minor road irregularities. If the springs were really flopping around, it seems they would more likely do it only on significant bumps or potholes where the suspension would really have a change to unload.

It also possible that the ride height is indirectly causing the problem due to the struts being out of their optimal range of motion. What I am experiencing as "clunking" could just be a really rough ride caused by weak struts lowered too much.

Blahblahblah... what's my request?!

I'd basically like an in-person opinion from someone with a bit of alltrac or suspension experience/knowledge. Basically, I drive the car to you and we ride around the block a few times and you tell me your opinion of what's going on. With possibly a quick jack up for you to inspect the suspension if need be.

Of course I'm going to check for loose bolts and such, but being that I was making liberal use of an impact gun when installing the suspension and also that all four struts seem to be clunking equally, I seriously doubt it's just a loose bolt.

I'd really like to try and make this suspension work for the time being. I thought about getting some 1.5" springs but I'd really like to know what the actual cause is before I randomly throw more money at it. I really don't want to take all the struts out again, fix what I "think" is the problem, and then have the same problem...

So let me know if you can help. Or if you have any general troubleshooting advice.

Thanks!
J.

One other random request... anyone have a spare rear subframe they'd either sell or exchange with the one on my car?

I want to do full poly bushes in the rear. But since I don't do my work at my place, I'd like to minimize the time it takes by installing all the bushes on a spare rear end and then swapping it out at the shop.

Let me know if you know where I can find one.
