car running like shit

Postby gt4alwayzz » Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:27 pm

i have a 88 celica alltrac with 140,000. i just put a new turbo, downpipe not connected to the rest of exhaust, headers, fuel filter, plugs and rotor button. the car fires right up everytime. i just drove the car 300 miles after purchasing and it ran fine but very weak turbo pressure. it would rev up to 7200. now after installing new turbo and everything else the engine revs fine in nuetral. when i try to drive it all the power goes away and falls on its face totally. can someone please help me

A free flowing exhaust will raise boost. Your open downpipe might be causing you to hit feul cut. How much boost are you running?

are all the vacuum lines hooked up right? like the tvsv lines?

definately sounds like fuel cut, do you have an accurate, aftermarket boost gauge? if so you could try unplugging the turbo pressure sensor, that'll get rid of the fuel cut completely....as a warning though, with no fuel cut you could quite easily blow your motor

if i were you first thing id do is check the lines....but like mentioned earlier, there is a good chance you are overboosting because of less restriction in the exhaust....my 165 with just 3in exhaust boosts 12psi and hits fuel cut on cold nights, had to disable fuel cut until i build a FCD.
