Ok....so last week I had the issues with the engine overheating. I had to take it to a shop and they replaced the cooling sensor. I've been driving it around and when I drive home from work, which is a 25 min drive the engine is smoking. The gauge on the inside of the car has it at normal, But it still smells like coolant. Today when I came home a bunch of coolant was spilling out of the reservoir. HELP!!!!!! But I did notice that the top to the coolant reservoir would not stay on. If this was loose and I was driving it around, would it cause these issues??

so the guage in the car reads normal and your experiencing a coolant overflow issue. I doubt the cap on the overflow res. is your issue. Maybe the rad cap is crap, might want to pic up a new one of those. Otherwise, do you have a better description of this sensor that you replaced?

Ummmm.....it was the cooling fan sensor. When it had overheated last week, it was straight boiling out the reservoir and the gauge read hot. Today it overflowed from the reservoir but it wasnt boiling and the radiator cap wasnt that hot. I had drove on the highway for 20 minutes..alot longer than I had drove it last week before it started boiling.

+1 on changing the radiator cap. Sounds like it doesn't hold up against pressure any more.

Ok....so I replaced the radiator cap. The rubber inside was pretty jacked. Will the smoking stop the first time I drive it or does it takes a few times for it to make a difference?

It may take a few times, depending on existing coolant residue that's already all over your engine. However, you'll know if it's working by the fact the smoking, burned coolant stench won't be even near as bad.

Whew....I'm sure there is coolant all over the place. I guess i'll find out when I drive home how bad the smell is cuz I park it in the garage and you can really smell what its kickin out! Wish me luck haha

Trust me, I know how it goes. I had a really bad oil leak that dripped right onto my exhaust and created billowing clouds of smoke. I actually smoked myself out of my car twice that way... burned synthetic oil just plain stinks.

So ummm do i need to b worried right now??!! Sad thing is, when I bought the car the lady had these little pieces of paper saying stuff that had been fixed. Twice she had gaskets done, just didnt say which ones. They "apparently" cost her over $1100 !! I'm crossing my fingers that my problem has been fixed.

Don't be worried yet...find out if that radiator cap replacement worked. Did it help?

Actually, now would be a good time to go get a compression test. If you don't know how to do it yourself, it's worth your money to pay a shop to do it. Around 35-40 bucks to get it done. It'll let you know if there is a problem, and the current condition of your compression in each cylinder. If there is a problem, they will be able to do a leak down test to help find the problem.

Well I honestly dont think replacing the radiator cap helped even tho it did need it. Someone had suggested I drain the radiator and replace it with fresh coolant which I did (myself woo-hoo) today. I'll give it a couple of days. Its not doin the whole coolant coming out of the overflow thing, just smokin. On a good note tho.....it passed the emissions test woo-hoo!!! :smokes:

I didn't notice, that you were from colorado. What part exactly? I used to live there (well, till i was like 5 haha), but then i've been visiting my dad there about 1-2 times a year since. My dad lives in Black Forest area, about 20 mins or so NE slightly of Colorado Springs. Just curious is all!

Actually, i'm heading to colorado springs and denver with my cousins this coming weekend/next week haha. If you and other colorado members of this board want to meet up, i say we should. You (and any other colorado members) want to meet up? Just a thought!

Oh yeah, about Aurora, my dad just bought a samoyed (siberian husky type of dog) pup, full white, a couple of days ago from a woman in Aurora. Ehh, just thought it was weird he mentioned it the other day..i really don't know where Aurora is too much heh.
