Lower Air Duct
What is this? I don't remember this vent/duct under the car.
It's been a while since I had the stock intake system...

Re: Lower Air Duct
Ha ha... nope! That is still on the last 165 I picked up; vents air onto the transmixer. Never saw anything like it before and damned if I'm gong to sell mine! Same goes for the alternator ducting. I still can't believe how dead bone-stock this car is.
However, there is an 88 165 listed at the local junk yard...

... just when you thought you'd seen it all
Definitely not on any car I've ever pulled parts from, worked on or owned.

Re: Lower Air Duct
Offtopic I know but has anyone ever seen the fender mounted mirrors that show up in the parts catalog for the 185?

Re: Lower Air Duct
I've never seen or heard of either of these parts before, they can't have been on every car unless every single mechanic throws them away.

Re: Lower Air Duct
I know they came on 165s, but I have never seen one on a 185, or 182 for that matter. Maybe they came on the Rally models?

Re: Lower Air Duct
Were they possibly removed because the 185 went to an oil cooler rather than just a looped hard line?

Re: Lower Air Duct
Definite possibility...
Did the 165s have an optional external trans cooler to tap into the hard lines? I always thought there should be one there; why have a short loop fol cooling... get an actual cooler in there.

Re: Lower Air Duct
You can remove the u shaped cooler and run hoses to a real cooler.
