I have been holding off on any major purchases hoping this would finally go through. Fingers crossed.

Anyone have an idea as to why the KAAZ LSD for the ST182/3 wouldn't be compatible with the 185's transmission? Just a matter of space?

Kaaz 1.5 way clutch type LSD MSRP: $1175.00 USD

And yes I know we would all prefer a torsen unit however this thing apparently fits in the SW22 MR2 and the ZZW30 MR2-S so if thats the case again, why can't we use it?!

^ exactly.

the SW20 MR2 clutch type LSD can be made to fit but I never have found out exactly how or what needs to be done.
quite a few years ago there were a couple of transmissions for sale with this configuration on yahoo japan but again, it was not really said how etc & my japanese isn't good enough to communicate with others effectively.
i'm sure it can be made to fit but i'm not sure how well it would work and/or hold up over time honestly.

I've had them both side by side in front of me (changing an ST205 trans to a FWD E153 w/ Kaaz LSD). There is no way to make it work. Remember, in the space where the MR2 (E153) has one differential, we have TWO. The MR2 diff is standard size (a cantaloup size or so) while the Alltrac/GT4 has two fist-size differentials inside a single unit. The transfer case has no differential inside of it, just the transfer junction (ring and pinion, but no differential gears) and the viscous coupler.

Thanks for that, it is nice to finally see the inside and get an idea of the problem. Do you have a E153 lsd you can place side by side with E154 diff?

Thanks for the pics Charlie!

So it's a diff inside a diff and seeing as doing the install of this new upgraded front diff will require ripping it all apart I might as well begin saving up for that upgraded viscous coupling that Mario had figured out and do both of them while I'm in there.

It's only money!

Have you got more info on "Mario's upgraded viscous unit"?

Dif in a Dif? Difception? After spending some time understanding how one turns the other, you can see why a standard fwd diff will not work. To be made to work, you would need some parts made. On top of that, you would have to find a small enough diff.

This might help better explain our center differentials
