Problems with my 185 tranny

Postby Khyron » Thu Jan 18, 2007 9:53 pm

Ok, just took the trac in to have new brakes, rotors and calipers installed (about a month ago my right front caliper locked up). No problem with the instalation but about a mile into the test drive we started noticing a grinding sound coming from the transmission (never happened before). By the time it got back to the shop you'd be afraid to put the car up on a lift for fear that metal chunks were going to start shooting out of the transmission.
The sound can best be described as a rotating grinding noise and seems to be coming from the front of the transmission, near the clutch. My mechanic's theory is that when the caliper locked up the front and rear axles would have been spinning at different intervals, causing a problem in the awd system. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe when your tires locked up it broke the clutch? I hope so.

Check your front axles to see if they popped out or the spline was damaged...

Me too. It always shifted a little hard.
