Short shifters

I used the TRD linkage.

Stock is on the left. TRD is on the right.
I modified the TRD: it was originally for right hand drive cars.
1) Reshaped for Left Hand drive
2) Mounted it, decided where I wanted the shift knob to be.
3) Turned down on the lathe to shorten and re-thread.

Modding a 92-93 any model Celica, would be the cheapest method, imo.

Or if you just get a 92-93 it may be short enough for you. But the "short throw" part comes from modding it.

I've been wondering about this too.. so I can take a 92/93 shifter from any junkyard ST18X and it will both bolt in and have shorter throws than the stock 1988 one?

Seems like it would make sense. Toyota shortened the MR2's shifter throws in 1993 too.

Bump... can anyone confirm that the 92+ lever from any celica will work and shorten the throws in an earlier model?

There's a guy over at ctech.net named Conrad Andres with a company called Ace Engineering. He's done quite a bit of experimenting with our shifters since he owns a 90 trac. If anyone should know, its him.
