Tranmission case

Maybe it's all in my head but why does one of my 1990 alltracs have a cast iron case and my other 90 alltrac has an aluminum case, maybe I imagined that the first tranny was cast iron (will double check) was there a break in the 90 year that they switched. I'm just really confused now.

You probably just think they are cast iron because they're so incredibly overweight :D

All E-series (all Toyota trannies that I know of) have cast aluminum cases and bellhousings. The E58 from the late-model Japanese 4A-GZE Corollas has the last third of the case (the outer cover) made of stamped steel. There might be a couple others like that, but I haven't seen any.

yeah used two different magnets when i was curious and the stronger magnet mated to the gearsets inside and tricked me into thinking it was cast iron.. well that and yeah the fact that they wiegh 5 times what a dsm tranny weighs!
