Well, maybe the brakes are not as bad as I thought. The rotors are just so damn rusty that its affecting braking. I am still shaking some of the rust off.

I dont know about you, but I'm loving the 'ugly' look. It has that old rugged industrial metal feel to it (probably because of lighting).

+1. would tap.

The lighting can make the paint look really good, especially when its dark. The main problem is the red spot and chips on the car, and the paint can look brown in certain light. It it was consistently 1 color, I might be fine with it.

There is a 350z that just did a flat silver that might look good, but then again it might not look good in the daylight.

Another flat silver car.

Just got word from the painter. I drop off the car next weekend for him to start. The car will hopefully be ready for the meet. I am hoping I can fund a non sunroof headliner. If I can not find one, I may just keep the sunroof.

All I have to do before I send off the car is get that spot of rust under the wheel well. I need to grind it off, cause it might be just dried red clay, which can look like rust.

I plan on using the power for the sunroof to come down the mirror so I can power my radar detector like I am going to setup on the Z.

I have something like this on the Z. I plan on trying to make something like this for the alltrac.

I am also looking at DVR equipment for my stick cam so I can start on some new videos.
I am trying to find some reviews on this DVR because it has a great price point. $120 plus it does a crap load more stuff.

I am starting a thread on headliners here.

A short vid before it goes to paint.

I wish the video gave a better idea of how fast I was really going. It looks so slow compared to the real experience.

i have learned that the camera angle and location plays a HUGE part in the perception of your speed in videos

I found this on a video forum. I have one of these cameras but I might need the wider angle lens. My recorder should be here next week. I should be able to put this camera into some really cool places.

I was also looking at some cooler car commercials for ideas.

Here are some videos for inspiration once I get the car back.

Just get a wideangle lipstick lens, a long svhs cable and some gaffers tape. I shot a 4 min chase scene in december and mounted this bad boy on the bottom of the front fork of a stunt bike. Awesome looking footage. I hooked the lens into a cheap sony digital 8 stuffed into a waist pouch of the driver and it would've been impossible to get that footage any other way.

Sticking a big camera like a pd150 or XL1 on a moving vehicle is asking for trouble if you don't have a super secure mount.

Now before anyone chimes in about quality differences, most chases are just cut cut cuts. You can get away with murder in the editing bay (but not in the shooting. ;) Camera angles are more important than the quality differences, which in this case were minimized due to careful post processing and colour correction.

In test screenings, I've had more than one person gawk at that footage, and it was like 5 mins to setup.

If you were really bent on it, you can get angles that no other camera can get. My advice to really sell speed is to get that camera as low to the ground as possible. I've shot stuff out of a sun roof, and it doesn't sell speed, even when going past the posted sign limits. Stick that lipstick lens under the front bumper for real cool photography.

I can tell you're going at a good rate.. but the real thing thats missing is the sound of the engine to help viewers tie it all together.... while the fast paced music is nice it does nothing to help validate what we're seeing..

I took out the sound cause all you can hear is wind. I have a nice high end mic & MD recorder that I will be using to sample engines and exhaust sounds for my "real" video once the car is ready.

I went for a little run yesterday and was driving by a st18x GTS. Its funny how much louder my car is than his. Idle, and just general engine sounds alone is so much louder.

So I got the car ready for paint today. It took longer than expected. The rust spot in the wheel well was worse than I thought, but I killed it. I used a dremel and ground all the surface rust off then covered it in rust bullet. So it should be good now.

I also used this time to take some tire wheel weights. I will be revisiting this when it comes time to start reducing my unsprung weight.

Here is the weights.

OEM Wheel w/ stock sized tire: 39.6lbs
17x7 ADR Fuel w/ 205/40/17 tire: 38.8lbs
17x9 050 w/ 255/40/17 tire: 47.2lbs

So my new setup is ~8.4lbs heavier per wheel. That is a lot of weight to add. So I will be trying to obtain a better balance down the road.

I am thinking if I get a 15lbs wheel and find a 245 tire that is in the 25lb range plus reduce the weight of my brakes by going aftermarket and new a-arms I should be in a decent spot as far as unsprung weight vs grip goes.

Last with the old wheels pic before I send it off to paint.
