Hi guys,
I would first like to introduce myself to the all-trac community. I am 22 years old and taking classes to become a welder. My ultimate goal is to open up a performance shop here in MN. I picked up an 88 all-trac from Brett in CO. Funny thing, I was looking for a shipper, and the day I paid Brett, I went with the cheapest shipping company and they picked it up the very same day. About a week later the beautiful alltrac shell arrives. Now I have never seen a st165 in person ever, and lets just say it was love at first site. Why a 165, let me explain it looks super mean. I am a huge Toyota fan and have owned nothing but Toyota s since I got my license.
I did own a 94 celica with a 2nd gen 3sgte swap and gt-four front end, I wanted to trade for on here but no one wanted fwd. And I see why, zero traction.
So I get this, in my eyes, a beautiful all-trac. No prop shaft, still trying to source one. No motor obviously, and interior in okay condition except for the interior trims. Luckily I bought a 89 celica gt for my winter beater and it died on me after 2 days of owning, so basically I have been bumbing rides off my girl friend. And still do, because I dont have a running car, until it stops snowing so I can ride my ninja around. But I will be swapping over the entire interior and all harnesses since the stock chassis harness was all hacked up from speaker, radio, and alarm install.
Well lets get to the project. Since my swap in my 94 celica, I kept the block and its totally stripped bare.
Just got done grinding the back of the block and let me tell ya, it took forever. Approx. 2 hours. I would like to add, I am a little afraid about how much I grinded down, but I will gamble a little. I had to do this to clear the transfer case.
So what is purchased.
98+ crankshaft already turned down rod journals from MCS.
Stock 3sgte rods
87.5mm CP pistons
The plan is to put a 3rd gen 3sge head on there and turbo it with the stock ct20b for about a year. Next summer rip the head off and build the head for more power.
But I am a little scared about how much I grinded down. I was actually thinking about just stroking a 2nd gen 3sgte, but I already ordered the pistons and didn't want to pay a 20% restocking fee.
I hope to have the 5sgte done mid summer. Will post picks of the block and alltrac when I get a stock 3rd gen HG here so I can drill out the coolant passages.
