This thread makes me wanna tinker with my old block so bad! Can't wait to see this all done.

How difficult is it to port the intake manifold ? Could a beginner do it with the right tools?

What did you use to clean most of the parts to? For internal and external parts.?

yes any 1 can do the porting just need to take you time and do a bit at a time so you don’t take too much off anything, need to mark everything up to see just how far you can’t port things out, all id used was a dremel and got all the cutting and grinding bits off eBay :) as for cleaning I have a big tank full of paraffin and clean everything in that as it pretty cheap to buy, then I use brake and clutch cleaner to was any then ells left on.

not rely done much this weekend, but got eh flywheel and crank back :)
the flywheel has been lightened and balanced you can see where it has been refaced for the friction plate

and here you can see where it has been lightened and balanced

2012-01-15102949-1.jpg

and the crank has been balanced to they said it was way out of balance so good job I had it done, you can see where they have drilled it out to balance it up

I have now all so weighed all the rods and piston to mach them all up and as you can see all the pistons weighed the same and so do the rods :)

ok so I lied lol went out and did a bit more
using the pastigauge I fitted the bearings and crank,
here you can see the plastigauge

2012-01-15155940.jpg

2012-01-15160017.jpg

2012-01-15160025.jpg

then torque everything down
2012-01-15161431.jpg

then take capos off to see how much the plastigauge has spread
2012-01-15164856.jpg

then using the gauge see if everything is to tolerance
2012-01-15164934.jpg

2012-01-15165529.jpg

and every thing looks fine to me all with in tolerance so i refitted all the caps and torqued evvery thing back up:)

now its ready to have the conroads and pistons fitted next weekend :)

Mixert, did you happen to weigh the crank as well? I'm curious to know how much that weighs on itself. :)

right we had a very good day to day with the help of Dug and Rich :) big thanks to both of you,
the fist mod of the day was to fit a latch to the shed door as it was flowing open all the time with the wind, so as in good old mixer moding style I did this :)
1 turbo gasket later
2012-01-21170702.jpg

then it was onto the build, we started by gaping up all the rings for each piston
here you can see the ring being fitted into the block so that we can use the feeler gauges to check the gap
2012-01-21112839.jpg

2012-01-21113036.jpg

2012-01-21112752.jpg

the rings needed the gaps setting so got the gap setting tool out
2012-01-21132219.jpg

then repeat for the rest of the pistons
2012-01-21132301.jpg

2012-01-21121451.jpg

after all the ring gaps were set up build up the pistons and install into block
2012-01-21141150.jpg

2012-01-21143424.jpg

2012-01-21143432.jpg

2012-01-21141529.jpg

2012-01-21144319.jpg

2012-01-21144722.jpg

2012-01-21145907.jpg

after all the pistons were fitted in to the block then we fitted the ARP head bolts to the block
2012-01-21151253.jpg

and fit head and torque down
2012-01-21153756.jpg

and you end up with engine block back to gather
2012-01-21163901.jpg

2012-01-21163837.jpg

so I only have a few bits left to do and that is the block all ready to go back in the car :)

What are you gapping the rings at?

I know with the turbo integra guys, they generally allow more clearance, especially with forged internals.
