Looking good!
Could you have gone with a 3sge instead of a 2zz ?
What type of pipe did you use on your cages ?
And were could I source that hood vent on your white one

Think that is an 80's era dodge vent from the turbo'ed cars like the Daytona, Aries, etc.

Also think he said the 2az was being used cause it has higher HP and better aftermarket support.

The cage tubing is 1.75" .095 walled seamless DOM. Some of the bars in the cage are done in 1.5".

The hood vent is from a dodge Daytona.

I went with the 2az because its a big displacement aluminum motor that bolts up to the all-trac tranny. I can pick the long block up by myself, I could never do this with the 3sgte. I'd imagine that with the turbo/intercooler & all it's pumps the 3s is close to 200lbs heavier. Did I mention these motors are cheap as shit! I just picked up a long block for $100.

I'm going to get the car running stock all motor for the class we will be racing in, but I have every intention of eventually putting a turbo on the 2az.

If your bored here's a good article on a Turbo'd 2ar the sister motor of the 2az.

Corner weighted the white car, this was with a 220lb ballast in the driver seat, full tank of gas, & a full size spare & jack. The car has a stock 1st gen 3S, stock exhaust & down pipe, stock suspension & brakes. It has bucket seats, aftermarket bumper bars, manual windows, & no interior.

I think it's realistic to get these cars to 2500lbs. Unfortunately I won't be able to see how light a celica can get. Both cars are having 250 lbs of cage added to them. :|

We took the white car apart to prepare it for a cage. The car was filthy so we pulled the drain plugs & power washed the shell.

I am really curious to see how the engine turns out. I think a lighter engine might be a way to go. Especially with the huge aftermarket for that one.

Impressive work so far!! So, what was the reason to strip and build both at the same time?

So that the cars match. Eventually when I wreck the white car all of its parts can be swapped to the red car, while its being repaired or replaced.

I'm selling a set of the wheels I had planned to use for these cars. They are Speedline Corse Tarmac rally wheels. These wheels were very popular in the 90s on Tarmac rally cars. As you guys know nice 5x100 wheels are fairly rare, these wheels had to be ordered direct from Speedline Italy and air freighted to the states. I purchased 5 wheels in case I damaged one beyond repair.

16"x7" +30 offset
5x100

$1500 for 5 wheels
