The K20 is a newer more efficient motor than the 3S. But the most I've ever seen dynoed on a 9180 was like 930whp.

In evo's they always get to like 880ish with them


Im not experienced at all with the Honda engines. I did not know the K series was that much more efficient than the 3S. This guy made 930whp at 36PSI, and 1130ish at 40PSI with the 9180 on the K20. I was just wondering where the 200HP difference was coming from. I guess there is no way a turbo would make up that difference, im :crazy:

I have a friend with a dc5 k20 that makes 450hp on 10psi and 750hp 22psi

I chatted with the owner before. He told me that the turbo was running out of air 930whp

Well, Im not sure what he did, but the 1130whp dyno sheet I posted on Page 2 was straight off his Facebook page, from his car.

That gain would require alot more than raising the boost. 930whp at 36psi would equal ~267whp N/A. Then 40psi would equal ~1004whp. 1140whp is more like 315whp N/A. On gas on a 2l engine :-?

Cool story bro. You did see the graph and the HP numbers right? Why are you bringing N/A engines into this?
You are comparing your "calculations" to real world HP numbers that a car put down to the wheels on a Dyno Jet setup. :?

Well my buddy just asked Vituned who tuned the car. They said it maxed the 9180 out at like just over 900whp.

Maybe he changed turbos.

Because boost works as a multiplier on the power the engine would make at ~14psi (N/A) and it is pretty linear up to a point when it drops off. So a 200whp gain from 4psi is just not possible on that engine, it would need alot of changes to VE if it´s the same displacement, not just more boost.
I´ve seen alot on the internet but I just don´t believe everything is true, bro.

I didn't even catch that you said the 1126whp was at 40psi. There is no way possible for that to happen. Especially knowing he made 930@36psi. Something had to change with his motor setup.

Pipedreams is correct that boost is a multiplier of power, and it does it on a very linear scale. I know that the MRS made 480@10psi. So with that knowledge you can calculate estimated HP for certain boost levels.

10psi=480
15psi=577
20psi=674 (Actually made about 700)
25psi=771
30psi=868
35psi=965
36psi=985 (Actually made 930)
40psi=1063
45psi=1160

You can see @36psi he made 930 which is down 55hp from where he should of been based off his numbers @10psi. If you use his 700@20psi numbers he should of been at 1020whp@36psi. That is a sign of something is getting maxed out. Usually it's the turbo. But you can see one of two things need to happen for that car to hit 1100+whp on just a EFR9180 turbo.

1- Fix the restriction from the day he made 930whp
2- Run more than 40psi of boost.

But based on what other cars like Evo's and STI's make. That turbo doesn't like to be higher than 900whp. That is usually when the compressor wheel gets to it's limit. The K series just gets there with less boost compared to other motors.
