I do agree, it would be easier to remove the stud if the manifold was removed. I'm going to try this. Best case it works, worst case it doesn't, and I have to remove everything anyway.

But unfortunately, I dont have the time/tools to remove the manifold/turbo/lines/down pipe. :(

For future reference, if you can grab a piece of the manifold stud that snapped off, just use a small plumber's pipe wrench. That thing has never failed me. You will tear up the stud in an epic manner (not that you planned on reusing the stud), but it's a great tool - after heating and PB blaster, it was a cinch.

Nicely done!

What's your method of installing new exhaust mani studs? I've read conflicting info.

Loctite or no loctite?

Hand tight or torque down?

Woot woot. I had one brake on me, I bought a special tool and it removed it. I installed new own studs with red locktight.

As tight as I could get them by hand + the locktight so they should be good. Make sure u get own studs the aftermarket ones are crap.

Well, I read that you don't want to use loctite, and if you do, you want to secure the manifold before it sets (due to the technical way that the stud works).

That's what I'm trying to figure out.

I bought OEM studs, but I used the double nut method to get them on there pretty damn tight. Now I'm thinking that isn't the best thing to do.

3" Exhaust Install + Broken Manifold Stud = Less power?

Postby loudstealthGT-Four » Thu Jul 19, 2012 7:32 am

I bought all new studs when I replaced my turbo, I. Just screwed the studs in finger tight and then put the manifold on and tightened the nuts as much as I could. I'm using different nuts than OEM , just went and bought some from local fastener place, they have a serrated back on them to lock them tight
