mild steel exhast manifold

I'm getting a custom exhaust manifold made and i was wondering what materials would be up to the task. I dont care much for looks, as long as its functional. Would mild steel be a good choice? It happens to be cheap. Can it handle the heat? If not, what would you guys reccomend?

I guess it depends on what your power goals are. The simple fact is that the stock Toyota manifold flows very, very well. If your goals are under 300hp, you really don't need a tubular manifold. Beyond 300hp....then you'll probably want something a bit more substantial.

i have use boiler tube in the past to make extractors. i find it strong, cheap, easy to wield and it also comes in mandrill bends. i have never made a turbo manifold though.

My power goals are within 300hp, so the main reason i'm getting this manifold made is to fit a new turbo on. I was going to have an adapter plate made, but then i figured I'd go with new manifold.

If you can get away with an adapter plate, do it. It'll be cheaper, just as effective under 300hp and easier to get made.
