berk tech downpipe arrived !!!

Q&A regarding engines, turbos, and intercoolers and power upgrades

Postby rrain3288 » Tue May 26, 2009 10:58 pm

iv tryed many ways to pull that off the car. the best way for me was to just pull the banjo bolt from the oil cooler and push it to the side 1/4 inch it will slide right out. just make sure that you pull the radiator first or you will destroy it

ok so i have problems even before i start taking stuff off my car. i have a problem with one of the bolts not being able to go through the hole because of the angle the bolt has to go in

the bolt that's closest to the right that connects to the b-pipe is the bolt i'm having trouble with. i'm starting to scratch up the hpc coating a bit and i'm having no luck getting it to go in like the one pictured above.

I used the copper infused thermal wrap and then painted it with black BBQ paint. Looks great and drops under hood temps significantly. I wrapped it all the way under to the flex pipe.

Oh well, I'll know next time. That was 6 years ago so it's all good.

for people going with heat wrap - two tips

1. to keep the mess down, dunk the roll in water first. this also helps you get a good tight wrap

2. you can get silicon spray for coating the heat wrap. use it! it will make it last much longer.

i ordered mine directly from www.berktechnology.com and the wait isn't too bad, it was about 3-4 weeks.

guys! I didn't want to start a new thread.

I cannot get my stock down pipe off.

Any advice/tips?

Seems like the oil filter thing is in the way. Not sure how to remove it or move it without spilling loosing oil.

Stumped!

why not kill two birds and change your oil while you are under the hood. Clean oil never hurts a motor!

then you dont have to worry about spilling oil

Hey man. Just did mine the other day and what I did was loosen all the manifold bolts to pull the waste gate far enough to slide the dp off the studs. After that it's the same but the other way around. Hope this helps :)

I was thinking this as well. Glad im not the only one. I will try this today!

But just so we are clear...
Basically, your saying just loosen the exhaust manifold bolts, slide the entire manifold/turbo setup forward, then wiggle the DP free?

just bend the oil line thats in the way and take off the oil filter. use a crowbar or a non filled bar of metal to move it, dont kink it by putting too much pressure! good luck
