How do I determine intercooler size?

Hey guys,

I'm looking to take my next step in my project and swap the tmic for the fmic for the convenience of maintenance and futur mods.

I'd like to know how to determine what size intercooler I'll be needing for a 300whp project would be.

Just get at least an 3" thick core. A word to the wise, always get a bigger core size so that you have room to grow in case you decide to change you HP gaols :wink:

If you get a decent kit, no...the intercooler size has nothing to do with lag, just throttle response. I have had a 24"x27"x3" core with my stock CT26, Greddy TD06 20G and my current HKS GT3040 and saw no difference. I also saw no difference in throttle response when I went from using the stock top mount with my 20G turbo to the front mount intercooler.

Take some measurements and get whatever fits. You can go smaller surface area if you go with a thick core like 3" and vice versa with a thinner core. Something around 27x12x2.5 would perfect IMO.
