Intercooler radiator replacement

Postby Ninetail » Thu Feb 21, 2013 4:06 pm

Hi everybody!

I have an ST182 Celica, which I have swapped engine to an 1995 GT4 JDM 3S-GTE 3gen engine.

I am wondering a little about replacing the original sub radiator for the intercooler, mostly because the brackets do not fit on the ST182. Might also be a nice little upgrade.
Any tips?

Thank you!

My top recommendation would be for a stock SVT cobra intercooler. It is a lot more compact, and if you mount it properly (with direct airflow), you can get some great results. The downside to this intercooler is that it doesn't have any mounting points on it, I had to weld brackets to mine. I bolted it directly to the bumper beam. Here is a link to one on Ebay:

I definitely wouldn't pay $250 for one. Troll the SVT cobra forums like I did. I picked mine up for $50 from a local mustang guy.

So the SVT intercooler can be used to replace the small stock intercooler in the front?

The original st205 chargecooler is about 700 x 245 x 37.

The ford: "The Measurements are Width measures 26 1/2" overall, core is 22 3/4" wide. Height measures 6 3/8" at the mounting point, core is 6" high. Thickness measures 2" overall at the mounting points, core is 1 1/4" ."

Thank you so much for the response. I will have to look into it.

Do you have a thread or pictures of your build/result? Thanks.

Yes. It takes a little bit of plumbing work, but it's well worth the result. I'll snap some pictures tonight if I get a chance.
