Hey guys I have a 1990 st185 and the engine has been rebuilt with JE pistons hks headgasket and cams.Im running the factory turbo and fuel system with ecu at the moment and my question is how do you guys go about breaking in a rebuilt engine. I planned on starting it up putting it time checking for leaks then running it kinda hard loading the engine up to around 5k and leaving it in gear and letting the motor slow the car down. This is for the most part the way that people seem to be doing it on the all knowing google. Does this sound right ? Is there anything specific I need to do with the cams or will they break in on there own?

Yup, that sounds about right.
Try not to let it idle or sit at one RPM for very long.

Dont load the engine up too much, but feel free to get into mid-high RPMs.
Drive up and down hills, leaving the car in gear while descending.

Oh, and make sure you use a running-in oil, or the cheapest crappiest mineral oil you can find.
The less friction reducing additives it has, the better.
