Judging by the valve cover it looks like a first generation 3SGE that they turbo'd and are calling a 3SGTE.

To build the 3S up to 1000 HP you're going to need to spend a pile of money. Once you've broken everything and built it up again you'll have spent enough to buy a faster car. Also why would you want an engine like that other than for bragging rights. The power curve is useless for racing or driving on the street and drag racing is boring...

They likely have a WTAIC or something in the cabin as it looks like the charge air piping goes through the firewall.

Whole thing is

Pretty much unstreetable, rough looking power curve and a turbo that likely takes an hour and a half to spool up.

They don't have an intercooler because they're running straight methanol/alcohol for fuel rather than gas. An alcohol race motor is an entirely different beast than even a highly tuned gas motor, even if it looks similar from the outside. You can get away with things that just wouldn't fly on a gas motor (like removing the intercooler completely). This is a very specialized motor for a specialized application.

If you're looking for inspiration to tune your "street" motor look to guys that have achieved big power on race gas like alltrac101 (Pat Chinshue) or tjdouble07.
