ECU mod with Fuel Tune?

Postby fruci101 » Mon Dec 08, 2014 5:33 am

Hello! I have a question to those who have upgraded their fuel systems, and have had some good success. :D

I am looking to upgrade my ST185 with 660cc injectors ,supra TT fuel pump, and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. What have been the best options as far as tuning/modding the existing ECU or replacing ECU with aftermarket one? Basically what I am interested in learning is what needs to be done after the fuel system components are added so that I can make them work like they are supposed to.

Here is what I am currently looking at:

You cant really do any ecu mods since they are not flashable. There are a few here: http://www.alltrac.net/tuning/upgradeECU.html , however gforce is not in business anymore (from what I've heard). You're best bet would be to get megasquirt for an EMS. If you upgrade the injectors to 660cc, the stock ecu will have no way of knowing that. Even with those chips / tunes, it still wouldn't know. You either need a piggyback or a standalone, but you would definitely be better off with the standalone...and you can get rid of the afm! Haha

Find a tuner in your area to figure out what ecu they are familiar with and get the standalone.. Hydra nemesis is the one I currently use..

Thanks for the help! Since we can't get rid of the afm how much will that limit the fuel mods?

Well I looked into it a little since I'm going to be putting 550cc injectors in my gen1. You can use a safc to tune the a/f. I still need to read up on it more.

Great let me know what you find! Is this the standard way most people have gone about this for the fuel tune?

You could also use something like an ATS rom tune

http://www.atsracing.net/Parts/Details/E-ROMTUNE

Not as flexible as a standalone but more convenient because it does not require tuning.
