FMIC should the bonnet scoop be blocked?

Sun Dec 17, 2017 6:47 am

Hi all ST185 (3rd gen conversion) I bought has the bonnet scoop blocked as the guy reckoned it caused over heating due to it not haveing the top mount (something to do with air pressure).

Just wondering if that sounds right as it turned out to have two snapped bolts off the turbo flange and was leaking a comsiderable amount of exaust, thought this might have been the sporadic over heating cause.

I doubt it will cause damage like that. The pressure in the engine bay may change slightly, but with the tmic there you have the same air entering that scoop it just slows down when passing through the tmic. Also I know a lot of Subaru owners that swap to a fmic and their cars run fine.

I've seen plenty of Alltrac and Subaru guys running the stock scoops with FMICs, and I've never heard of anyone blocking it off.
