Q's about Wheels, Offset, etc.

Postby lhoy12 » Fri Sep 17, 2004 6:35 pm

These questions are for an 88 All Trac.
First off I will address wheels/tires situation.
I'm more into performance than looks (but still has to look nice) so I'm looking at lightweight 16" or 17" wheels and want to keep things close to stock sizing. According to the Miata.net calculator, the stock tire/wheel specs are:
Sidewall: 4.8 in.
Radius: 11.8 in.
Diameter: 23.7 in.
Circumference: 74.4 in.
Revs/mi: 852.0

With a 17" Wheel and 215 40R17 Tires you get this:
Sidewall: 3.4 in.
Radius: 11.9 in.
Diameter: 23.8 in.
Circumference: 74.7 in.
Revs/mi: 848.0

With a 17" Wheel and 225 40R17 Tires you get this:
Sidewall: 3.5 in.
Radius: 12.0 in.
Diameter: 24.1 in.
Circumference: 75.7 in.
Revs/mi: 837.0

With a 16" Wheel and 225 40R16 Tires you get this:
Sidewall: 3.5 in.
Radius: 11.5 in.
Diameter: 23.1 in.
Circumference: 72.5 in.
Revs/mi: 874.0

With a 16" wheel and 225 45R16 tires you get this:
Sidewall: 4.0 in.
Radius: 12.0 in.
Diameter: 24.0 in.
Circumference: 75.3 in.
Revs/mi: 841.0

Which would you guys go for?

Next after I have chosen my wheel and tire combination, I need to address off set. I was wondering if you guys could tell me what offset it would take to get the wheels/tires to be flush with the fenders instead of sucked in? I know it will depend on the wheel/tire size but estimates would be nice.

Now its time to close the wheel gap. What lowering springs would you all recommend for this set up? (*note: wheels and tires will be flush or close to with the fenders) So therefore the car can't be lowered to where the body will start to drop over the wheels/tires. Thanks for any and all input! I apologize for writing so much.
