is it possible? sorry if its a dumb question but im new in the world of the alltrac 
91 MR2 cusco coilovers on 88 st165???

With a fair bit of fabrication!!!
A lot depends on the damper length etc compared to the 165. Also the spring rates/damping will be all wrong for the 165. If slightly near you may be able to swap the dampers front and rear as the 2 has a rear weight bias due to mid-engined layout.
I'm about to convert my 205 bilsteins to 185 fitment so anything is possible with a bit of work.
