Postby jerod » Sat Mar 03, 2012 3:20 am

Does the all trac have the same design or are my brakes jdm only. Thanks for the help,my rear brakes are shot(metal to metal) and i might as well do my fronts. Thanks again guys for any help.

All ST185 brakes are the same. the RC or CS brakes are no different.

If you want to upgrade, look at getting a set of ST205 brakes.

Some very early ST185's did receive the ST165 setup with the twin piston and 255mm rotor.
If you are trying to get parts tell them to look up the 165 and it will be perfect.

And I believe its not as effective as the later ST185 setup anyways ....

are they noticeably smaller? my friends 185 narrowbody has visibly smaller brakes than me and we can't figure out what to replace them with.

I think the 185 setup benefits mostly from a larger rotor used with the massive single 50mm piston caliper.

Just to add to the confusion very early jdm St165s had a single piston front caliper as well!

165 are 269x*10* 59.8 high
St185 are 288x*10mm* 60 mm high

Both solid

Great info and good pics, but I need to make sure I'm understanding correctly. I have a 185 that I'm pretty sure is an early model with the 165 brakes and am looking to replace/upgrade. I've heard a lot of people say to upgrade from the single piston calipers of the late 185s to the 205s. If I've got the 165 brakes, can I still upgrade to a set of 205s or even the late 185s?

Yes. Same hub and Knuckle as the later spec 185. My car also had 165 front brakes and I've since upgraded to a ST185 aftermarket bbk.

your most simple upgrade would be to buy later model ST185 calipers, brackets and rotors to replace your two piston setup. This will bolt up directly to your car with no additional modification. If you're looking to have dramatically improved braking, there are big brake kits available for varying costs or the St205 brakes can be fitted after making some modifications.
