16x8 +20mm, will they clear?

I'm looking to buy a set of XXR wheels for my ST165. 16x8 with a +20mm offset, which will push the edge of the rim out just under 2 inches, which seemed like it will clear but I was just looking at my car and I noticed that the rear wheels are much more sunken than the front. The front tires are almost flush with the fender. Something does not seem right. I just bought this car about 2 weeks ago, it had some crappy 17" rims that the owner removed, those rims had spacers on, so maybe he forgot to take them off the front, I cant see without taking the wheel off.

Anyway, two questions. Does this sound right, the rear wheels on an ST165 being much more sunken than the front and, will +20mm 16x8 with 205/45-16 clear the fender on stock suspension?

I have 205/50/R16 on my 165 with stock height suspension. They only rub (mainly touch the plastic guard liner) when extremely hard pushed into a corner other than that no problems.

My son has a JDM ST162 with up market suspension and is lowered 40mm. Same size tyres and the hubs have 10mm spacers added.
Again the tyres only rubbed when hard cornered. He had his older brother roll the inner edge of the guards and now no more problems.

My oldest son is a spray painter and is in partnership in a body shop. He has a special tool that goes on the wheel hub with a roller on an adjustable arm, that screws outwards against the inner lip of the guard. You rotate this tool back and forward while tightening the roller arm and it starts folding in that edge uniformly. At the same time he applies heat via a hot air gun to the paint to soften it. Very important this, if the paint is not softened it is likely to crack.

I would think there would be a body shops in your neck of the woods that would have this tool and experienced in doing it.

Yeah, a fender roller. I have one. Just wondering why the rear wheels appear to be more sunken than the front too.

and do you have pics of that car?

you will need spacer in the back for a flush look but other than they should fit fine. i am getting same size for my st184.

I took a good look on my car today, its hard to judge, the tires I have now are 195/60 and are undersized for the car. They are also super crappy 20 year old tires and the fronts sidewall is trash and they are balloning hard. The outer diameter of the tires/wheel combo I'm looking at will be almost the same as stock but not having stock tires its hard to confirm,

So, anyone have pics of a 165 on 16x8 with a 205/45 or close? I want to make sure I wont rub on turns, or have the tire stick out too much. Coilovers are planned but not anytime soon.

Its a light stretch. I'm running a similar tire on my Conquest, cant even tell.

If only it wasnt too much of a hassle to redrill to 5x113....

Can anyone tell me if the +20mm offset will work on a 16x8 with a 205/45 and not poke out? Or clear the fender? it looks to be close....

Curious to see how they fit. I'm have been debating on putting the 16x8 +20 xxr 521 on my alltrac once I get coilovers.

My 18x8s fit fine but offset will need to be considered.

Careful with the ebay 20mm spacers if thats what your looking at. Your wheels will need space cut out for the lugs hold the spacer down not sitting flush. I ran into this issue and mine do not... Working on solving the issue now.

205 is small for 8" wide.. I run 265s on my GTOs 8" wide wheels. Alltrac is only 225 and look too small to me for an 8" wheel.
