Converting read drum to disc

Postby 80's Kid » Sat Mar 03, 2018 4:06 pm

I'm looking to find a way of going about converting my rear drum brakes to disc but so far I have not found the necessary information. Can someone offer tips on how this gets done?

I'm assuming you have a ST? if so get the assemblies from a GT/GTS at a scrap yard.

Sorry, but I don't know all the lingo here yet. What is an ST?

Not an AllTrac but a base model (ST), which has rear drum brakes.

No, it's an all-trac, the Canadian version.

So, you have an AllTrac with drum only rear brakes? You think someone swapped the hubs/brakes before you got it?

Are you talking about a Celica All-Trac or a Camry All-Trac? What year model?

Sorry, that should have said "1991 Celica All-Trac". Not a Camry or any other.

I've never heard of any Celica Alltrac with drums, somebody must have swapped it. Can you post up some pictures?

Sure, give me a few days as I will remove the wheels completely to double check, but they look visibly different from the front brakes as they are now.

The parking brake is a drum brake of sorts. Its possible you might have mixed it up and just didn't notice the rotor behind the stock wheels.

Alright, I need to get to know my car better. They are disc brakes after all.
