I'm interested in the widest tire that will fit on the 2000 gts wheels. they come with 205-40-16. i'm interested in fitting 225-45-16. has anyone done this?
thanks guys
I don't know how wide those wheels are. You should probably be running 7-7.5" wide wheels for 225s. My eclipse has 6.5 wide, and I'm running 225/45/17...with a good bit of sidewall bulge.
Also, Tirerack lists rim width range for each tire.
Clik on the tire model and the spec.
For example, my Yokohama AVS ES100
Scroll down to 225/45/16, it only fits 7-8.5 inch rim,
While the 225/50/15 fits 6-8 inch rim.
do not put 225/50/16 tires on the GTS rims. it will jack your acceleration and speedo. it's just too big. 225/45/16 is the biggest you can go on GTS 16s without adding too much change to the tire ratio.
fyi, it's 16x6.5" and each rim weighs about 22 pounds (without a tire).
Just got my new Falken Azenis 215 45 16 mounted on my GTS wheels, and i have no rubbing issues. The rears ARE close...about 3/8" from the strut. Let me tell you, these tires are sticky!
