ST185 JDM ECU Identification

I got my hands on what I think is a JDM ECU. Could some one tell me how I can identify whether or not it is or not. Also, what improvements should I see with the JDM ECU of the stock US ST185 and is there anything I need to worry about.

There are several numbers on the ECU. They are all listed below.

*1750003910Q*

89661-20751

17500-3910 12V

Thank you for all of your help.

Thank you very much. What are the pros and cons of using this ECU instead of the stock 91 ST185 ECU.

Thanks again.

+ a little more power when using proper fuel
- detonation under boost with lower octane

Thanks again for the input. What octane is appropriate. Right now I use whatever the highest at your typical gas station is, 91 I think. I'm pretty sure this is standard for alltracs. If I should be using higher octane, where do I get it, I've always considered those octane boosters to be a gimick, but is that something I need to consider? Thanks again for any input. It is always very helpful.

consider doing a google search for race fuel in your area, you may be able to get 100 octane or 107 octane depending on the area. Try to get it unleaded if possible, but leaded wont hurt just slow down the o2 sensor response. I wouldnt do more than a half tank and also pull your 15 amp EFI fuse when you put the gas in so that your ECU can re-learn on the new gas. Also keep in mind the gas is expensive and you will have to put it in a gas can. You cannot put race fuel directly into a street vehicle at least not in my area. Hope this helps 8)

I have a JDM gt4 and I use 98 RON whatever that is equivalent to (94 MON?) and I would not use less than that. Even 95 and it doesn't appear to run as nicely.

I'm paranoid, and refuse to use anything other than 93+ Octane on my US ECU 185.

One time I had to ask for a refund at a gas station cause I assumed they had 93, prepaid, then got out and they only had 91.

Haha, I got some weird looks from the help.

I read on wiki that you can estimate the PON value (R+M/2) by taking about 4 units from the RON number. So 98 Ron should be roughly 94 PON right?

Anyway, thats what i use also.

What 3SGTE ecu is part number # 89661-2B280?

I assumed it was for an MR2, since it came with my car when I bought it but when I posted it up fs on the MR2Board, Someone suggested it's for a Celica. I inputted the part # on Lithiatoyotaparts' website, but nothing popped up. It's also a different part # than my 93 JDM 3SGTE currently in my MR2.
