HKS Fcon

Has anyone, or is anyone still successfully using this stuff on a 3sgte?

I ask because i have relatively modest power goals for my car, and i'm thinking an Fcon could probably handle up to that point. I know the Supra guys are able to get to almost 400whp using these setups.

Yes, i know it's outdated and that there's better options out there. But it's easy to use, and my current dealings with an EMS have left a REALLY bad taste in my mouth. (Hydra)

Was there a PFC made for both 2nd and 3rd gen 3sgte?

as long as its the fcon v pro gold it will cope with anything ony problem with it is mapping as only official HKS dealers / tuners should have the software

there is ebay :)

However its a complicated beast not exactly setup like other ecu's

Its a v.good ecu and can run as standalone which not many people know... Its also easy to do this with the 3sgte as it has the same connector as the stock ecu...

V big in japland and if you look its used on many big spec cars out there ( veilside etc )

first of all, the f-con only really works well with both the gcc and the vpc. and for that kind of money just get a real standalone.

and there is nothing wrong with a HYDRA ems. it is very powerful and well built and the ONLY plug and play for 165 harnesses. the problem lies in tuners and support. i totally agree that the support sucks. and tuning one is a nightmare. and that the hydra is way over powered (which yes is a bad thing), but:
i rank it in features with aem and haltech
i rank it the f-ing lowest on tunability (and yes i am a tuner as well)
i rank it up with haltech and motec for build quality
and again the f-ing lowest on support.

all that said, if haltech wasn't around and i didn't want to pretty much pay for a car again in the motec way, i would still be using a hydra. i'd take a hydra over any hks, apexi, or greddy product.

If you already have a Hydra I'd just find a tuner that knows the box and can set it up for you. If the box itself is defective then Hydra should replace it. Sounds like we're only getting part of the story.

What are your power goals for the car?

Yeah, it's best to have tuner that knows what their doing.
I have retracted my negative remarks since they were over opionated..
Hydra has been used very succesfully in many areas.. it's just a matter knowing the system.

I have a full PFC FCon setup on my DD, which is sortof what brought me to ask the original question. Works great, though the VPC is not an option with that particular car.

Hydra just pisses me off. I run 2.5 on my Miata. The support around here in terms of people who will touch it is slim to none. $275 wideband sensors can suck it, too. The start up and idle settings seem to be extremely hard to get solid, and the alternator output control (Mazda's fault, not hydra in this case) is garbage.

I'm probably going to end up with AEM since i'm no longer using a stock motor anyways, so the HKS stuff isn't really an option. Things have changed since i posted the thread 2 months ago. :p (stroker)

I should clear this up.

Daily driver: 1990 MX6 GT running PFC FCon with a Supra CT26 turbo. (srsly.)
Toy: 2004 mazdaspeed miata running Hydra 2.5
Race car: 93 Escort (will be running Megasquirt)

Celica: As yet determined...

Power goals: 350-400whp, but would be fun to be able to hit a 600whp "hail mary" on the dyno. Car is FWD. I have a couple things i'll be doing that might be viewed as "strange."

The box itself for Hydra is not defective, there's just a complete and utter lack of support, and i'm not comfortable tuning that particular car on my own, and looking at the software, i couldn't figure that shit out anyways. It's obnoxious.

Only one person for Haltech support around here. If my Megasquirt setup isn't done in time for Escort, i'll be going Haltech for that.

I'm kinda really thinking AEM for Celica, since anyone and their mother can tune an AEM. I can deal with the setup myself i suppose, but a PNP is always nice.

Guess i'm making my own harness from scratch. Oh well, always wanted an excuse to play with Amphenol connectors. :)

honestly, AEM has not been at thier best here lately. if they would upgrade their hardware it would be nice. haltech on the other hand has grown dramatically in the last 2 years. and they are forever updating and upgrading. they have a new ignitor for those going COP. requires no ignition amp and outperforms most on the market now. good stuff. and it's cheap at that! i can't give haltech enough credit for what they have been doing in the last couple years. i'm very pleased that i am onboard with them. the platinum series are amazing and upgradable. great warrenty and flawless software.

hand wiring my engine has probabily been the easiest thing i've done. much cleaner. the only hard part was seperating the alternator area from the stock harness. the rest was freaking gravy. just a little time consuming.

Man i keep missing these posts.

Funny you mention that... depending on how the Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 goes with the Escort, i will very likely be using the Haltech Platinum Sport 2000 on the Celica.

Soo... good call!
