st165 air filter

so i'm considering the "big" investment of a new cone airfilter. since the alltrac is my first car, i try to get help doing anything for it... no sense in ruining a good part on account of stupidity. Also because i'm cheap, i shop places like ebay. can you guys advice on a few links i found for potential filters? how easy to install? things to watch out for, you know the rap.

also, is there anything else i'll need to do to effectivly route air to this thing (since i want to add hp, not choke the engine!)

Whatever you do, DO NOT remove 2 screws on the AFM connector.
To remove the connector, just unclip it.
Spend more and get K&N one. You don't want something to break and get sucked into the turbo.

Watch out for ebay adapters. Most of them do not allow the full amount of air flow in. Make sure the "hole" is a rectangle, not a square.

I bought the TRD Ebay adapter. It is working well, BUT

I had make the adapter inlet a rectangle instead of a square. 15 minutes with a coarse file did the trick.

5000 miles later, still going strong.

Any models that you know of that already have the rectangular opening? I've been poking around eBay as well, and even the K&N filter I saw had the adapter with square opening....

As with so much of what it takes to mod an alltrac,

take the adapter they are selling and get a coarse file (flat on one side and rounded on the other is best) from Home Depot (I got a set for 8$) and file out the square opening to match the AFM opening. It took me 15 minutes which inluded the time to sand and polish the new opening to make it look nice (not that anyone will ever see it).
