SSAC downpipe + full catback (TONS of thumbnails and vids)

Alright. So here we are again with SSAC again. However, this is actually a Motoria catback exhaust, NOT SSAC product. SSAC is the supplier/distributor. For the downpipe, again, NOT SSAC, but actually XS POWER. (If i do refer to any part of the exhaust as SSAC, i do so b/c SSAC is the supplier, but keep in mind who it's from - Motoria and XS Power.)

Back in November, i saw they had full catbacks for our cars. I asked about it, they took a while to reply, but i soon got through to them. They weren't available at the time, it's been on order until just recently. I finally got it and the downpipe. I received the first shipment (supposedly), so i kindly obliged to take pictures and videos for their website. I'm going to upload them here to you all first before sending them off their way.

First, we have the downpipe. I opened it up, welds look good. Flanges were thick. It came with all necessary gaskets, support bracket, instructions, and it came with bolts/nuts (which i couldn't use). Some problems this downpipe has:

-O2 sensor is rotated so it inteferes with manifold heat shield. No big deal for me, i just banged the heat shield where needed.
-The bolts were the wrong pitch for the turbine housing thread holes. It came with nuts that you use with the bolts, but the bolts were not even long enough to go through both flanges and have enough thread for a nut to fit on. No big deal, i just used the stock stud and nuts.

Here's the picture of the downpipe, 3" mandrel bend

Alright, there we have the downpipe. The downpipe fit nicely, no issues with rubbing anything (except the heat shield). I didn't have to bend the oil dipstick slightly either (maybe mine was already bent).

Now on to the full catback. I received the catback, very nice looking. Again, flanges were thick, welds were nice and clean. It came with all the necessary bolts and nuts, gaskets, however it came with no instructions (for those that care). A few issues with this system:

-midpipe touches the crossmember. to fix this, i had to drop the crossmember with 2-3 washers.
-assembling this unit without the catback touching the rear was a bit tricky. you have to first join the catback with the rear resonator pipe. then, join the rear resonator pipe to the mp. the mp is divided into two pieces, one which slides into another. This allows you to rotate the entire rear section as to not rub anything, THEN, while holding that position, tighten up the clamp to join the two pieces of the mp together. But right before doing this, you'll want to join the front mp piece to the dp, so the front mp piece is secure. That's it...simple, can be, if you have a helping hand (i didn't and it did test my patience, but i finally figured it out). If you do it this way, you will NOT get ANY rubbing issues (not so far that i experienced).
-there is a LITTLE gap between the mp and a rubber mount (?) piece that is on the prop shaft. It doesn't rub, but i did wedge a piece of rubber just to ensure they don't bang together somehow. But the exhaust was pretty stiff anyway, it wasn't going to sway and hit that anyhow. Not really an issue, but more a heads up deal.
-there was a slight issue in getting the mp to go on its hanger. What i found to get the hanger on was take the hanger off, then put the hanger on the pipe first, then put the hanger back on the car. A bit tricky, but you'll get it.
-NO CATs at all. If you have emissions...

Now, on with the pictures!

Old exhaust first...

Some pictures of the new exhaust, uninstalled

Here's the stock and Motoria exhaust side by side

Here's a pic of the muffler with the silencer...you can see, it sits pretty deep in there.

As you can see in the pics above, the muffler angles a bit more than the stock muffler. Also, the piping is very close in imitating the stock piping, they did a good job! As you can see too, the resonator looks to be about straight through...David (coding paradox) said the aussie was like a corkscrew inside theirs? The tip, i measured by the way, is 4.5" for anyone that is curious.

Alright, now all that is left are the installed pictures and the videos. Everything is already installed, i've been running with this exhaust for a bit now. I will post the installed pictures and videos up tomorrow. For one, it's really late and the videos may take a while, and two, i didn't get a chance to take good installed pictures or videos yet because it's been crappy here with the weather then, but the weather's cleared up since then, so i'll taking more videos and pictures to finish up this thread. Until then, enjoy what i've posted so far!

UPDATE:

Here's the best pics i could get of the exhaust installed. It's mainly the muffler pics and what not. Until i get my car on my friend's lift at his shop, these will have to do. Here's a few videos for you guys to enjoy too.

First, the installed pics...

Hopefully I got about most of the angles for anyone that's curious. You can see in one of the pics that there is about 1inch clearance from the muffler to the bumper (which is plenty for the muffler not to hit the bumper). Also, the tip does not stick out as much as you may think. I hope the pics iterate that well enough. The tip just BARELY comes past the bumper on the far right corner. I personally don't mind this as this helps the exhaust gas/fumes to clear the bumper.

Now for the videos...some advice you should all definitely heed...TURN DOWN YOUR BASS a little. The mic on my camera pics up low sound VERY well, and turning the bass down a bit helps to hear what the exhaust is really sounding like.

This is the exhaust sound at idle.

This is the exhaust revving in neutral from about 20 feet.

This is the exhaust with the camera outside of the car, with me going by.

This is the same thing as above...but coming from the other way.

This is the exhaust with me driving off (don't mind the amateur work :p ).
http://media.putfile.com/185-SSAC-Exhaust-Driving-Off (3.21mb)

Finally, this is the exhaust with me driving normally, inside the car, windows rolled up.
http://media.putfile.com/185-SSAC-Exhaust-InCar-Drive (1.81mb)

Alright, remember, the mic on the camera isn't the best, but try to average out all the videos i guess lol. And give some leeway for the sound quality just a bit (if it sounds too blurty/too much bass for you). In any case though, for the incar, i can't remember if the windows were rolled up or down, but it didn't seem to make too much of a difference with the videos (from what i gather...tells you the videos aren't of HIGHEST quality), but the videos should do their jobs in giving you an idea of what the exhaust will sound like. Hearing the exhaust in person and comparing to the videos, it seems to be about the same in most of the videos. One more video i still need to take is of someone holding the camera driving next to me, so you get to hear the exhaust when i'm racing it, but the mic being linear with me throughout the run. If you any questions or perhaps requests, just shoot and i'll answer or do what i can!

Enjoy!

Very nice job. I am interested in getting it for the ST165. I might be the first. Thanks for all the details!

that sure is nice!.. i second on the cost of the full exhaust system. Do they have it for the st165?

If you look at their site they claim the same one works for both the 165 and 185. Which also holds true for the Aussie IIRC. You might need to do a little finessing to make it fit but it shouldn't be a problem. Too bad they don't have a DP for the 165.

i've been told that st185 and 165 exhaust are the same...

Yep, they are. What's only different is the flanges being rotated differently on the 165 where the mp meets the catback i believe. But...obviously if you buy the full catback from them, the flange issue won't matter.

It was 460shipped total. You can probably scope them out on ebay now if you can. Otherwise, it's a good deal to me. I'll get the rest of the pics and vids uploaded tonight.

So, I'm pretty damn sure SSAC doesn't build their exhausts. They import them from a Korean company called Motoria.

http://www.motoria.co.kr/

A local here bought one of their MR2 exhausts directly from them, and it's looks identical to the SSAC exhaust, down to the imprinted "/Motoria" on the canisters.

This also explains why they call them "Super Motoria Brand" on their website.

This doesn't explain what they think they're doing with the turbo kits though. Many of their honda turbo kits have larger charge piping than down piping. WTF?

And yes, you are right. It's clearly shown on the pics i've uploaded that it's Motoria. SSAC is a big distributor too. Examples we already know are motoria and xspower. Yeah they don't make them, but someone still has to be the distributor. Having a distributor can be handy. Robert would know personally more about this.

There are two sound clips on the ssautochrome website.

What kind of weight savings are you getting with this system? (wild guesses are fine)

Miniscule. The dp is lighter, but overall, there's more metal. I say it's about the same.

The clips on the website are of the 205 exhaust, and they aren't very accurate. I will get pics in the morning. I just finished uploading all the pics and vids to my comp, and it's late heh. Sorry for the wait!
