Hello ! I need to change 3rd gear syncron... I have E150F. Could I use E151F syncro. Are they same??? I understood that CS or GrA have modified syncro...

IT is true????
Could somebody give me partnumbers of TOYOTA's syncrons...
For E150f and E151F...

???

Pretty sure that they give you the upgraded synchros when
you order them for earlier transmissions (ie.. there will be
one part number and its for both trannies). I am in process of
rebuilding mine and I got upgraded ones when I ordered them
(synchros). Ask your parts guy to verift

Ive got the part numbers if you need them (and the EPC
numbers also)

In fact try these:

33367 - 33367-20040 - $26.75 - (2) synchro ring #1

I believe so, actually I when I list "(2)" it means a quantitiy of 2, so I
think the synchros for 2nd and 3rd (or 1st and 2nd) are the same.

i would assume its because the 2nd and 3rd gears are supposed to be a dual cone ceramic....although i seem to remember reading it was a tripple cone on second and a dual cone on 3rd

Any news on this?

Are the above part numbers for a 92-93 gear box?

And im assuming that if i bought just the syncros listed above, that they will drop right into my 90 JDM tranny with no other modification?

So,.. in summary, I should pick up part numbers:

33367 - 33367-20040 - $26.75 - (2) synchro ring #1
33368 - 33368-20040 - $23.95 EACH - (2) synchro ring #2
33369 - 33369-20010 - $21.11 - synchro ring #3

And where is says (2), thats how many rings that part # comes with?
and the #1,2,3 is the specific gear? or the ring's number?

Thanks for any clarification anyone has :) I called toyota x2 within 10 minutes of each call, i got 2 parts guys giving me 2 completely different sets of part numbers for 2nd/3rd gear syncros for 92/93 tranny

Cheers

Corey, I searched through the epc and I think I got it. My take on it is that you most likely can not just upgrade the syncros, because the input and output shafts are different, the gears are different and hubs are different. Different part numbers that is, so the dealer is not just going to hand you the upgraded one, but maybe they fit. They did a major redesign in 91. So the good news is later model E150F had upgraded syncros too (maybe you knew this already).

Here are the part numbers for pre-redesign (early) and post-redesign (late) E150F 2nd and 3rd gear syncros. Arrows (-->) show that part numbers changed and you'll get the one the arrow points to no matter which one you ask for.

3rd
early 33368-20030 --> 33368-20040 (3rd and 4th gear)
late 33039-12010 --> 33364-12H01

2nd
early 33367-20050 --> 33367-20060
late 33038-12011

There is a little back story to why the part numbers posted perviously are not the right ones (IMO at least). First of all, in EPC terminology #3 means 3rd gear and (2) means there are two of them in your gearbox. Now EPC has an error in my opinion, because there is no #4 (4th gear) syncro listed, but #2 syncro is listed twice. This is quite confusing. So 33368-20040 is actually 3rd and 4th syncro, but listed as #2. Of course since there are 2 of them (one for 3rd and one for 4th) it shows (2) there. And 33369-20010 is actually 5th gear syncro, but listed as #3. Maybe #3 in the EPC doesn't mean 3rd gear at all. Anyway, I was going by location. I figure the syncro next to 3rd gear in the picture is the 3rd gear syncro for sure.

If you are feeling adventurous, the late model E150F shares some parts with E53 gearbox from V6 camry. The 2nd gear and upgraded syncro are the same. If you are going to try it I'll do more searching.

Thank you very much :)

From the sounds of it, BoostedBlue ordered the new syncros and they fit? Ill PM him to check.

But it looks as though its going to cost quite a bit to change my early box over to fit the new syncros. At which point i'm going to start shopping for an RC box again.

Thanks again, i appreciate it :)

Hey guys,

I have a busted E150F and don't know enough to fix it myself, and had an "opinion" question: it seems most people replace their whole trans when there is a problem with it and this post made me wonder "why"?

Is it fair to say that most transmission issues will end up requiring just a subset of parts replaced, if the issue was seriously looked into? If you're paying a shop for labour (not doing it yourself), does a full replacement just save on labour? Tough question, I know.

I am considering buying a replacement trans just cause I don't know how much time/labour ($$$) paying a trans shop to tinker with it will be, but curious what people's thoughts were! Surely whatever broke in my trans it a relatively inexpensive piece, but I'm gathering there is more to it than I expect! :)

5th gear issue should be easy to diagnose and fix. Anything else requires the 5th gear to be removed with a puller (and reinstalled with a press) and a bunch more stuff to be taken apart. For 5th gear only the outer most (away from engine) cover needs to be taken off.
I took a class on transmissions for fun and brought one to class to rebuild.
