we had a friend with a MKII MR2 turbo who also vented his BPV to the atmosphere.
it not only sounds good (if you are into that) but it gets the job done of keeping the turbo happy.
from reading on MR2oc.com they say that the stock BPV works similarly to the HKS SSQV

usually if its hooked up correctly, users notice that there's a short point in time when the car runs rich, due to the lack of air but all the same fuel amount between shifts. sometimes you backfire..
