Hyundai Rally Clutch - 5th Gear. How does it work?

Hey,

Found this video, of how the Hyundai team changes out a clutch....

Takes them about 2.5 minutes!!

But its no ordinary clutch. It appears to be installed outside of the gearbox somehow. there is a quick shot of it sitting on the ground after its removed.

How does something like that work? Why wouldnt these companies apply these designs to road going cars to make everyone's life simpler!

I suppose cost, but that would be saved down the road when a couple grand in labour doesnt have to be spent on dropping an engine.

it looks like a multiplate clutch pack. it also appears to ride on the input shaft in a different manner than a street car- unbolt the side cover and slide the clutch off the shaft. lets remember these cars use sequential 6 spds so the internal gear sets are probably 1/2 the size of ours and make packaging far easier(also wrc trannies are like $30k bucks)
