UPDATE 11/13/11: Current Group Buy going on here viewtopic.php?f=43&t=42339

http://www.teammfactory.com/

They make good and really inexpensive helical gear (torsen) and metal plate style diffs.

Here is a link to a recent successful group buy through them for the unloved ford escort/mazda protege's

http://www.clubprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=38426

They've also done the same for the FWD Mazda 6 community, and I'm sure if we could line up enough buyers they will do the same for us.

I would gladly pay 6-700 for a front lsd... anyone else?

I was going to post this on this LSD thread but the board wouldn't let me for some weird reason.

*update 2/19/10* Projected price for this unit would be around $1000 or less. 10 people needed for the initial group buy. I'm currently looking for an ST205 diff assembly to send them for measurements to get a final price confirmation.

hmmms, i am just wondering about the usefulness of a front LSD??

I know i don't have huge power, but i have never experienced the front end spinning??

Just trying to wrap my head around it :)

I think the main concern will be fore those with a decent amount of power and running to the limits of their cars handling. From what I have been reading about tracked 4s (185 & 205) is that they are having front inside wheel spin on corner exit. The open front diff could be contributing to some turn in understeer as well.

Hmmms, i hope that doesn't happen to me, cause that would suck!

with ~190awhp i haven't had front wheel spin at the track, even in the wet.

So i wonder how much power is needed??

Very cool,

I'm pretty sure he means 450/500+ awp. That seems to where "limits of our car" category of power begins. I'd be interested at the price mentioned given I make enough power with my project to care.

Cheers!

I am thinking starting more at the 300/350+ whp cars. Martin is running very wide slicks and it getting front inside wheel spin on corner exit in that power range. The st205 that experience this , are running a bit more power I believe.

I have not contacted them yet. I wanted to see if there would be any real interest in such a piece before going any further. I'm new to the awd toyota world so I'm not really sure how crazy people are getting with these cars these days other than a handful of high hp "because I can" type projects (evo's, wrx/sti's seem to make more $ense at that point but I'm in the same boat) and the fact that there has been no updates to the "definitive" LSD gearbox thread I linked to in almost 2 years.

M-Factory has stepped up to the plate for the obscure and unloved (old fwd mazdas), I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have a problem doing this for a pedigreed factory race car if we can get similar numbers.

A show of hands? ::puts hand up:: :)

I can def feel my inside front tire spin when autoxing, its really noticable on a long sweeper and corner exit like noted earlier. Even sometimes feel it on the street (note 225 tires). Id love to see these available in the future. Im still working on getting an lsd for the rear lol...

Interested in front LSD and VERY, VERY interested in a helical cut, syncromesh close ratio gearkit along the lines of the C-One kit with a final drive to give a top speed of about 140mph at 7,500 rpm in 5th on 235/35R17 rubber.

im kinda curious about how the car will handle with a front lsd.
ive heard (gt-R's) that awd cars with front lsd (assuming clutch types) need to be driven hard other wise it can misbehave due to the lsd.
as i said i heard, i dont know my self

Believe it when I see it as the packaging in our gearbox is an utter nightmare, which is why the TTE front diff is insanely expensive, but if someone can do it I'd be in for one. (or two)

Would the diff be the same between my ST205 transmission and earlier generations? Does anyone happen to have one of these just hanging around that could be sent to M-factory for measurements/prototyping?

I'm going to contact them later today and see if we can get the ball rolling on this.

Thanks for your reply's.

The diff should work for st205s and 185s. I think it will work for 165s after the locking gearbox design. If any one has a hyper rev laying around you can see what models the TRD front/center lsd combo is for. Mine are all in boxes, or I would look myself.

Plan on this being alot more expensive then a FWD LSD, if it even gets made at all. AllTracs/GT-Fours have the front and center LSD built into one assembly. Like Simba said it is a packaging nightmare and that is why the LSDs that where made are super expensive.
